emilykyle photography

Today while Lily was napping, I took photos from each room in our house, then tweaked them slightly in photoshop finalized with my new little symbol for my photographs. Clearly just for fun, one of many things on my list of 'what I wish I could be amazing at...' photography. Oh how I sure know how to waste valuable quite time....

well there is an hour spent on fun....
after a couple hours previously spent on mindless nothing on the internet

one of these days I will accomplish something more than playing with photoshop and the new camera... but that day is definitely not today :)

Lily's first Easter was a success! More of an excuse for Mom and Dad to enjoy a little childish fun...well mostly for Mom... but thats not the point. Kolby was such a nice husband getting into the holiday spirit, I am so excited we now have a reason to go all out for special occasions, having a child now means we get to celebrate like children, which is clearly the best way! Even though Lily won't quite be able to remember the event on her own, we documented it so she'll have no problem seeing what a nice day it was.

Lily's first time dying eggs... daddy wanted her to get the full experience :)

After about 12 shots using the timer, this was the best one we captured! With a baby you end up taking about 10 pictures for about every 1 that turns out...something Kolby hates!

Her adorable new Easter dress daddy picked out all by himself!

Hopefully everyone else had a wonderful holiday!

family day

I was given the day off today, so we got to enjoy an entire day with the whole family! {minus Lucky who we treated to a day filled with running and playing with other dogs at SNIFF} Anticipating sunshine and then being disappointed by the rain, we spent the day erranding around portland.

the morning started off lazy... with a small photo shoot- poor Lily she has to put up with so many photos from Mommy!

Daddy eventually caught us both looking at the camera...

Lily had her first trip in IKEA, because if we have a day off it isn't complete without a walk around ikea getting ideas for our next house! {after 6 months away, we were a bit disappointed how little has changed}

and.....It was the first time she got to sit up in her stroller, such a milestone :)

then COSTCO!!

we did luck out with some sunshine in between stops which was a nice suprise... overall a lovely day off, we of course didn't do nearly as much as we'd planned- but for us thats fairly typical. Especially with a tiny person along for the ride, things never go as planned!

all I want to do...

Ever since my beautiful new camera came out of the box and into my fingertips, all we've been doing is taking pictures! Ebony {she had to get a name of course!} has been so much fun and an amazingly entertaining tool/toy for us to play with. The weather is supposed to continue to be sunny so hopefully in the next few days I will have some pictures of something besides baby and doggie [but they're both just too cute... I am of course not complaining!] heres a what we've been doing:

A wonderful and talented friend of mine, Melissa, had a photo shoot with some little girls for her up and coming tutu business delighted, we unfortunately had to miss it this time, but as soon as Lily is a bit older she'll be a perfect model for these adorable tutus [which I'm sure you'll be seeing more of]. We decided to do a mini photo shoot ourselves.... she was a bit of a wiggle worm so unfortunately this is the most in focus shot I got of my little cutie :)

Lily LOVES hanging out with Daddy, he always gets the most unconventional shots... I love it!

It makes my heart melt every time Lucky comes up to Lily to sniff and/or lick her face and she just lights up and lets out such a cute giggle! She already loves her dog and I keep trying to catch the moment on film... this is the closest attempt yet-- someday I will get the perfect shot!  Lucky seems to know what the clicking sound means when I turn Ebony on and takes it as a cue to run away...

she loves her fingers right now... I think the goal is to get her entire fist in her mouth... she comes surprisingly close!

We had a little play date today with Lily's new friend Claire who was born on St. Patricks day! I met Claire's mom {also named Emily} last summer while we were both pregnant, immediately hitting it off over our growing bellies...and have created such a bond over our changing lives! Claire was not happy about the photo and immediately started crying... Lily on the other hand just couldn't stop laughing {typical}!

*** again sorry for the blurry photo, tiny children aren't amazing at staying in one position, and Mommy is still learning how to control her laughter enough to focus on holding the camera still!

I can absolutely understand the desire to become a full time photographer! I just want to take pictures of Lily all day long to catch every second of her amazing little life

personal baby boutique

I have some of the most wonderfully talented and generous friends a woman with a new baby could ever ask for! Etsy shops are popping up all over the place and I have been lucky enough to get amazing little items for Lily while these little businesses are getting up and running:

adorable hand crocheted booties from maxandlulus

the most wonderful burp clothes I could have ever asked for! I got lucky enough to recieve 5 as a gift courtesy of lulusholian

handmade lace headband with interchangeable flower barrettes (double as mom accessories as well!) No etsy site, maybe in the near future!

***having the most adorable model adds so much character to the photos :)

unbelievably cute tutu gifted from delighted which I am partnering with to design...

 business cards:

and fabric tags:

It has been wonderful to get back into using photoshop for a reason other than just open ended playing which can be oh so overwhelming not to mention incredibly time consuming! I can't wait to fill you in on this little joint business as it expands, I am so excited for such a fun project on the side!

Thank you to all of my wonderfully generous friends for thinking of Lily!

photographer in the making

The afternoon was spent playing with the new camera...unfortunately Lily was sleeping majority of the sunny weather, so I made due with my two muses inside! It is just incredible what a quality camera does for a photo, I can not wait to capture all of lifes little joys on this wonderful camera.

after a 2 hour nap and a full belly, Lily was nice enough to endure a series of trial and error photos.... mom playing with the different settings and exploring aperture and shutter speed. Luckily she was a little preoccupied with how delicious her hands were tasting :)

Lucky was equally patient, a little less squirmy and very unsure what this huge black object making clicking sounds was doing pointing in her face all afternoon!

Because Lucky was so cooperative to let me try out my new toy and read the manual all afternoon, she earned herself a trip to the dog park SNIFF while Lily watched and I enjoyed a delicious Blackberry Italian soda on this beautiful sunny afternoon. The weather these past few days have made me appreciate the sun, anxious for the warm weather to accompany it!

long awaited monday night pizza!

Since moving to Northwest Portland last June, Kolby and I have walked past the bakery a block down dozens of times- each time seeing the sign for Monday night Pizza, checking our schedule for the upcoming Monday night and realizing one of us works. Tonight was the night that we finally got to try the pizza at ken's artisan bakery {which unfortunately is NOT gluten free... but well worth the potential stomach ache tomorrow!}

and after finishing 2 amazingly delicious pizzas between the two of us, of course we opted for dessert considering it is one of the bakery's specialties :) My husbands choice was the giant chocolate cake {about 3 inches high and 4 inches in diameter...definitely a giant in comparison to the other tiny treats in the glass case} but it was delicious; rich hard outer chocolate shell filled with chocolate cake, as well as both raspberry and chocolate ganache. The waitress then decorated the already intimidating cake with a cookie, a small bunt cake and 3 flowers gushing about how we were their favorite customers because we chose the giant chocolate cake for our dessert...apparently we gathered a bit of attention with my husbands big eyes! I wish our camera was here so I had some pictures of our incredible night out... but its scheduled to be here tomorrow, fingers crossed!

oh an to top off our night... our little angel slept with her hood over her eyes the entire dinner, I couldn't have asked for a more amazing way to spend my Monday night.

future investment

I am one of those people who get more excited to exercise {and honestly believe they will do it more} when I have the right gear and accessories. Unfortunately this is a terrible habit to get into, first its the right workout clothes {which i DEFINATELY have plenty of!} then the perfect running shoes {check! thanks to my recent trip to NIKE and my amazing new shoes} and now with baby in tow, a safe and functional jogging stroller {upcoming investment}.

The stroller I have been eyeing is one of a few BOB jogging strollers, my goal is to find one on craigslist to avoid the $400+ price tag. I did some research and found that Lily isn't allowed to be pushed in the stroller at a running pace until she is about 8 months old, which isn't until the beginning of September so luckily I have some time to really shop for a deal! This would be my ideal color, but of course i'm open to other possibilities.

If anyone knows someone trying to sell one of these wonderful strollers I would gladly take it off their hands! So keep your eyes and ears open for me and Lily!

aww the suns out!

What a beautiful day in northwest Portland! I started the morning off right at SKOGG for my first kettle bell class post baby. Such an amazing work out, it felt so good to be back, hopefully I will be able to continue going consistantly to kick my butt back into shape!  And if I start running to and from the gym, the 20 minute run might get help me started to get back in the groove of running... I guess you have to start somewhere!

To top it off when I left for my walk home the sun was shining! I absolutely love portland in the spring, when the rain gives us a break and lets the sun shine through- the cherry blossoms are blooming and the grass seems just a little bit greener!

our new toy :)

Having a little girl changes your priorities a bit when it comes to what each paycheck is used for; Buying a new pair of jeans quickly transforms into diapers and a new winter jacket for Lily. I am lucky enough to have a husband that took the initiative to made an executive decision on an exciting new toy to document our growing little family:

Photos are such an important aspect of holding on to memories and now that I have an adorable new muse photography has a whole new meaning! I can hardly wait an entire week before the box arrives at our door so I can provide a glimpse into life with Lily.

whenever there's time....

Having a baby somehow speeds up time, but at the same time makes a single moment seem like a lifetime. I have been blessed with the most incredible little being I could have ever imagined and her name is Lily. When I am not working, running, cleaning, cooking, painting, crafting, shopping or trying everything imaginable to make her laugh I'd love to get down a few words to look back on this wonderful time and see where my mind is at on a day to day basis. I have made the plunge into blogging for the sole purpose of documenting the happenings and enjoyment of our little family.
